ODP: SAP HANA information views

ODP can also be used for SAP HANA views as a data source. We can enable this by using ODP to connect an SAP HANA database to the BW system as the source system, triggering the communication that takes place via RFC. This method is also considered as an alternative to DB Connect interfaces to SAP HANA databases.

This ODP context for SAP HANA information views is often used to create analytic, calculation views, and also associated attributes, that are available for replication into BW. Once the SAP HANA View is activated an operational data provider is created or updated at the same time.

In SAP BW/4 reporting these operational data providers can be used directly and server the purpose of Transient Providers .These operational data providers will allow you to perform calculations in the views on the SAP HANA database. And this is done directly before the load operation into BW/4 Hana.

Few examples for these are currency conversions, restricted key figures, JOINs or UNIONs

The data is thus being loaded to the SAP BW/4 system physically. We strongly recommend that in case you need any duplicate data for any important purpose then prefer virtual access to the data, particularly if the data is already in the same SAP HANA instance.

ODP: real-time replication via SLT

Data management in real-time has been possible with ODP since BW 7.4 SP6. Although even with BW 7.3, it could be loaded from the ODQ by maintaining a scheduled DTP. With the SLT Server often referred to as SAP LT. In this instance, the data is loaded directly from the ODQ to the Info Provider. This is done by using DTP. You can use Data Sources of the types “Web service” and note that the database does not have to be mandatorily SAP HANA. Since the Web service

Data Source is no longer available from SAP BW4/HANA, in the following we need to focus on ODP

Based on triggers the SLT Replication Server can be used to write data to the operational delta queue of the SLT system from ABAP and non-ABAP systems. While the DTP is accessed in the BW system for data replication. Thereby the initial loading of the ODQ is triggered and followed by the subsequent forwarding to the BW/4 system. In addition, the delta is then always written directly into the ODQ.

We provide in-depth of SAP BW/4 Hana training with complete lab setup and in-depth practicals. We provide important documentation as a part of our SAP BW/4 Hana training which will enable you to acquire more knowledge and be ahead of others. We provide SAP BW/4 Hana training through different modes like live interested led online, Self-paced training etc.
