In this article we shall discuss SAP Data Intelligence, showing several aspects of SAP Data Intelligence 3.0 including the Launchpad, connection management, metadata management, pipeline modelling, and ML scenario manager.

SAP Data Intelligence Launchpad

SAP Data Intelligence Launchpad is a browser-based application. In SAP HANA Administration it provides a single point of access to multiple user-facing applications. The displayed applications in the Launchpad will differ for different users and also depend on the credentials of the user. These users are dependent on factors like user roles or personas, which include data engineer, data scientist, business analyst, IT user, data steward, etc. The Launchpad in SAP HANA administration enables you to launch the SAP Data Intelligence applications by organising, personalising, and includes grouping applications, ordering, removing, and also creating quick links, etc.

SAP Data Intelligence Connection Management

In HANA Administration before you can proceed with anything with SAP Data Intelligence, SAP Data Intelligence administrators or other business users use the SAP Data Intelligence Connection Management application to create and maintain connections provided they possess the necessary privileges to do so. In HANA Administration a connection refers to an access point to connect to a remote system or a remote data source. The connection management window shows you all the connection management functionalities, which includes a list of all the connections available in your SAP Data Intelligence instance. It also tracks and lists all the types of connections that SAP Data Intelligence supports your Data. You can always create a new connection or delete an existing connection, and can also check the status of the connection established.

Once your HANA administrator(s) creates connections and provides you access to the SAP Data Intelligence instance and the connections, you can perform a series of operations. The order of the series will differ based on your persona.

SAP Data Intelligence Metadata Explorer

As a business analyst, you can use Metadata Explorer to perform different metadata management functionalities that are available in SAP Data Intelligence in HANA Administration. There are three use cases supported by Metadata Explorer.

Data discovery and governance are the first use case is. It is perhaps not always easy to find the dataset that you need for your uses. We may not trust the data itself for several reasons even after we find a potential dataset. In this case for instance in many cases, you will need to evaluate the data quality based on the source of the data. It always appreciated that you may take feedback from other users, or cross-check the vocabulary which describes the attributes of the data which you might find difficult to understand. With the help of a metadata catalog, with a set of services we support data discovery and governance in SAP Data Intelligence. This metadata catalog includes a business glossary, search, fact sheet, lineage, rating, and tagging.

The second use case in SAP Data Intelligence in HANA Administration is data quality monitoring. The easy to use business rules and scorecards allow users to monitor data quality continuously.

The final use case is self-service data preparation. Here business users and business analysts can be able to leverage the data pipe-lining capability. This is done with the help of an easy-to-use spreadsheet UI to enhance and enrich datasets in SAP Data Intelligence.
