An SAP HANA database consists of multiple servers, like name server, index server, preprocessor server, etc. The databases installed in an SAP HANA system run different combinations of the above-mentioned servers. Among them, the most important server is the index server, which contains the actual data stores and the engines for processing the data. The Index server runs in every tenant database of HANA System

In HANA Administration, only the system database is responsible to run the name server. It contains landscape information about the system as a whole, which includes tenant databases that exist. The name server provides the functionality of the Index server for the system database. The name server does not hold any information about the location of tables and table partitions in tenant databases.

The Database information is stored in the closely connected tenant database catalog, which requires only their own index server. The compile server and the preprocessor server run on the system database and all databases and do not persist data.

Core Processes on an SAP HANA Single-Node Instance

The SAP HANA database functions- implemented in different services. SAP HANA Database follows the concept of a shared architecture in HANA Administration, which each of the processes of the database maintains data in the corresponding data and log volumes independently.

The SAP HANA Extended Application Services Engine

SAP HANA extended application services is an application server. The native SAP HANA based web application is installed with the SAP HANA system, which allows developers to write and run SAP HANA-based applications. There is no need to run any additional application server.

The web-based tools that come with SAP HANA, for instance for HANA administration, lifecycle management, development are run with the help of SAP HANA extended application services.

The server on the Classic Model of SAP HANA Extended Application Services

The classic model of SAP HANA extended application services is the original implementation of SAP HANA extended application services. The server on this classic model of SAP HANA extended application services can run as a separate server process or can be embedded within the index server.

As a part of the network configuration the SAP Web Dispatcher, runs as a separate database service on the system database host and used to route incoming HTTP requests from the clients to the correct XS.

Classic server is based on virtual hostnames and is part of network configuration. For distributing the load uniformly the system-internal Web Dispatcher, and an external Web Dispatcher is implemented
